PUERTO GALERA, Philippines - The “Malasimbo Art and Music Festival†made sure that revelers and participants would enjoy the fest not only at night but also during the day.
While music performances began when the sun is down, art took the spotlight during the day.
Besides various artworks that were displayed for the benefit of festival goers, particpants could also choose to do artistic activities.
On the third day of the festival, activities including a Ukulele workshop were held in the afternoon.
Emmanuel Mendoza, assisted by singer Kai Honasan, mentored the workshop participants on the basics of playing the ukelele. Some of the participants learned that it was easier to play the Ukelele since it has fewer strings compared to the guitar.
After learning the basics, Emmanuel encouraged the participants to play "easy" songs with him like “I’m Yours,†and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.â€
The ukelele workshop was followed by Vinyasa Flow Yoga class. The venue is just perfect for a yoga class since the participants are surrounded by trees and the air is fresh.
Before giving lessons, the yoga instructors showed some advanced yoga positions. Although the yoga instructors had an easy time to do the positions, participants found it difficult to copy these yoga poses.
After a few minutes of demo, the real lesson began. The instructors showed basic yoga exercises as most of the participants were beginners.
Before the night partying began, there was one more workshop left - the Poi Dance workshop.
The Flow Arts Philippines was kind enough to teach the festival goers some basic flow movements.
Some of the instruments they used that day were Bola, dummy of a double-edged sword, hula-hoop, and a stringed glow stick.
As the workshops wrapped up, the music on the main stage began playing and the night party is on.
