K-pop's first Grammy: 'Golden' secures first win, makes history

MANILA, Philippines — “Golden” raised the flag of K-pop after it won Best Song Written for Visual Media at this year’s Grammys.
It may have lost to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s “Defying Gravity” duet under the Best Duo/Pop Performance category, but the hit song from the animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters” scored a first in the history of K-pop.
“Golden” is performed by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, who are the singing voices of fictional K-pop group Huntrix. It received four Grammy nominations this year, including Song of the Year and Best Compilation Soundtrack.
K-pop group Blackpink’s Rose and Bruno Mars were nominated in the Best Duo/Pop Performance category for “’APT,” but lost to Erivo and Grande.
The duo, however, brought the house down early in the awards ceremony in Los Angeles with the performance of their smash hit.
Previous K-pop act nominated in the Grammys was supergroup BTS.
