CA justices, SolGen vie for SC post
MANILA, Philippines — A total of 19 applicants are vying for the position to be vacated by Supreme Court Associate Justice Amy Lazaro-Javier who will compulsory retire on Nov. 16.
The Judicial and Bar Council said the first to attend the public interviews of the JBC on Oct. 13 are Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Geraldine Faith Econg, Bureau of Immigration Deputy Commissioner Aldwin Alegre, Legal Education Board chairperson Jason Barlis and Court of Appeals Associate Justice Lily Biton.
Commission on Audit chairperson Gamaliel Cordoba, Commission on Elections commissioner Ernesto Maceda Jr., Government Corporate Counsel Solomon Hermosura and German Lichauco will be interviewed on Oct. 15.
The JBC said the previous interviews of applicants Solicitor General Darlene Berberabe; Court of Appeals Presiding Justice Fernanda Lampas Peralta; CA Associate Justices Nina Antonio-Valenzuela, Ramon Bato, Ramon Cruz, Maria Elisa Diy, Myra Garcia Fernandez, Ronaldo Martin and Walter Ong; Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Karl Miranda; and Court of Tax Appeals Associate Justice Maria Rowena San Pedro are still valid.
