MANILA, Philippines — Voters must be wary of a fake news circulating on social media claiming that special barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will be conducted nationwide on Nov. 28.

In an advisory released on Thursday, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the date is reserved for a special congressional election in Batanes.

The Comelec said the post used an altered infographic to make the official calendar of activities for the Batanes special election appear to refer to the barangay and SK polls.

The special election in the lone legislative district of Batanes intends to fill a vacancy in the House of Representatives following the death of Rep. Ciriaco Gato Jr. on Sept. 21.

The Comelec stressed that no barangay and SK elections will be conducted in Batanes or anywhere else in the country on Nov. 28.

The twin elections, originally scheduled on Nov. 2, have been moved to November 2028, the Comelec said.
