PCG, Australia eye stronger cybersecurity cooperation

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard is exploring expanded cooperation with Australia in cybersecurity and critical technology to strengthen the PCG’s resilience against emerging threats across the maritime and digital domains.

PCG commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan discussed cybersecurity requirements and potential capacity-building initiatives with Australia’s ambassador for cyber affairs and critical technology Jessica Hunter during a visit on Friday.

Australian Ambassador Marc Innes-Brown also joined the engagement.

The PCG said the meeting covered the Cyber Capacity Uplift Project, as well as opportunities for technical assistance, training, information exchange and other areas of cooperation.

“Today’s engagement is a valuable opportunity to exchange views on our cybersecurity requirements and identify practical ways by which the Philippines and Australia can further strengthen our cooperation in cybersecurity and critical technology,” Gavan said.

Hunter reaffirmed Australia’s continuing support for the Philippines in enhancing its cyber capabilities and resilience.

The cyber dialogue engagement forms part of the growing PCG-Australia partnership in promoting a safe and secure maritime environment.
