Sarah Geronimo sings duet with father for 38th birthday
MANILA, Philippines — Sarah Geronimo celebrated her 38th birthday with a deeply personal milestone, reuniting with her parents and sharing the microphone with her father, Delfin Geronimo, in what the Popstar Royalty described as one of the most meaningful gifts she could give herself.
On July 25, Sarah surprised fans by unveiling a duet with her father, offering a glimpse of their recording session through a behind-the-scenes reel posted on social media.
"This is a gift to myself, to everyone and my father. To celebrate him and our love for music," she wrote in the caption.
The video showed emotional moments between the father and daughter as they recorded together in the studio, with Sarah's mother, Divine Geronimo, also present during the session. In one touching scene, Sarah shared a half-hug and a peck on the cheek with her mother.
For Delfin, the collaboration was more than just a musical project.
"Sobrang proud ako sa anak ko kasi siguro, sa kaniya lang ako nakakakuha ng lakas ng loob. Sobrang masaya ko tsaka masyado akong na-touch sa mga kanta. Habang kumakanta kami, para akong maiiyak eh," he said.
Sarah said performing with her father had long been one of her dreams.
"Sobra akong masayang-masaya dahil I got to do this with the dearest person in my life, siyempre ang tatay at nanay ko. Kasama ko ang tatay ko ngayon, sharing beautiful music. Performing together is such a dream come true," she shared.
Delfin added that the project fulfilled his wish of singing timeless songs once again with his daughter, while Sarah praised her father's musicality.
For their first release, the father-and-daughter tandem recorded a cover of Jose Mari Chan's "Refrain," a song they both grew up listening to. The rendition is now available on Sarah's official YouTube channel.
Sarah's husband, Matteo Guidicelli, also marked the singer's birthday with a heartfelt Instagram post, sharing family photos and expressing his love and appreciation for his wife. He also hinted that more milestones await Sarah this year, saying it "will be the best year ever."
The musical collaboration comes after years of public reports about Sarah's strained relationship with her parents following her marriage to Matteo in 2020.
In 2023, the singer posted a now-deleted letter addressed to her parents, apologizing for the pain she had caused through some of her decisions, though she did not elaborate on the circumstances behind the message.
A year later, Sarah confirmed in an interview with sportscaster Dyan Castillejo, alongside Matteo, that she had reconciled with her mother. She shared then that Divine had already congratulated her on her recent achievements.
