Janine Teñoso was just 17 when she first entered the music business.

After nine years, she is headlining her first solo concert at the New Frontier Theater on Sept. 6.

She said in an interview that she didn’t expect a concert but she’s elated and grateful that for the first time she is mounting her own gig. “This is my first because I’ve always been involved in other people’s concerts. I usually did it with a group so this is my first headlined concert.”

The Di Na Muli music maker previously collaborated with Arthur Nery for Pelikula and Cup of Joe for the heartfelt Tingin. Her latest single is Pikit Mata.

Janine believed that this is the perfect time to take the center stage because she is more confident now as an artist.

“And, I guess, for me this is the right time to create a concert that will showcase all of my songs, my repertoire,” she told The STAR on why it took her nine years to hold a solo concert.

“I think that I’ve arrived at the specific space and time na parang mas kabisado ko na yung sarili ko, I know myself better,” she furthered.

“And of course, being an artist, that’s what you need. You really have to showcase your vulnerability and who you are.

“And I think now, I’m more confident of being who I am. So, it’s perfect timing to have this. And when it comes to the song as well, this will represent who I am and that’s gonna be the story of the concert.”

The music event will feature her music journey, including the struggles that she has been through. She also hoped to inspire others through her music.

In those years of being a music artist, Janine admitted she also felt frustrated. “I wasn’t frustrated with the things that I’m releasing but I’m more frustrated with the alignment of everything,” she mused.

She was “very controlling” when it came to releasing her own stuff. “So pag hindi ko na-achieve yung gusto kong ilabas dun na ako parang naiinis ako,” she shared.

She’s a self-confessed perfectionist and sees it as her “weakness.” “But at the end of the day, again it’s about growing. Right now, I’m actually in the process of getting rid of perfectionism and I got inspired because of the other artists as well, female artists that I look up to who are just representing themselves, just for who we are as of the moment.”

From stage design, marketing promo to setlist, Janine is very hands-on with her forthcoming concert.

“Honestly, all the songs that I’ve written and released are songs that were written in the bedroom. And in the bedroom, that’s where I flourished most. That’s why flowers are involved in the concept because flowers represent growth. It’s also part of the poster and the stage design because when I’m in my bedroom, I write a song. And I grow because of it and that’s what my music kind of tells the audience. It’s about growth,” she described the theme of her show.

Arthur, Cup of Joe, The Juans and Rob Deniel will share the stage with her, with a special appearance by Rabin Angeles.

She was glad that friends in the music scene have accepted the invitation to be with her. “And we’re still friends, all of them. These are artists that I really look up to in terms of songwriting so I’m just glad that they are always there to support.”

Janine just dropped her six-track EP called “Apat Na Buwan” and will launch her album next year. Secure your tickets at Janine’s concert via TicketNet outlets and ticketnet.com.ph.
