Ruru Madrid embarks on a ‘world tour’ before doing action again

As a Kapuso artist, Ruru Madrid also has the privilege to meet our kababayan abroad and bring live Pinoy entertainment to them via Kapuso international projects and events such as “Sparkle World Tour.”
He and co-artists remind overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and residents of their first home and represent its warmth and love.
Pinoys, wherever they may be in the world, are still tethered and connected to the Philippines, and they miss it even if they’ve found a new home abroad.
In the forthcoming Sparkle event, Ruru will share the center stage with Comedy Queen and “The Clash” judge Ai-Ai delas Alas, actress Kyline Alcantara and singer Jessica Villarubin.
Last year, he and Bianca Umali, also known as “RuCa,” were part of the “Sparkle Goes to Canada,” which also featured “BarDa” (Barbie Forteza and David Licauco) and “JulieVer” (Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz).
With Ai-Ai as a fellow headliner, how will the GMA action-adventure-and-drama actor, Ruru, keep up in tickling the audience’s funny bone?
“Siguro magpapaturo ako kay Mama Ai ng mga punchlines (maybe I will ask Ms. Ai-Ai to teach me to deliver some punchlines),” said he in a recent press conference for the Kapuso showcase that begins on Aug. 16 and 17 in Toronto, Canada and continues on Aug. 29 and Sept. 1 in Calgary. The “Sparkle World Tour” will culminate in November. “Siguro i-enjoy ko lang talaga yung moment ko duon (I will just enjoy my moments there).”
“Mag-ra-rakrakan, magkakantahan, magsasayawan (we will be rocking and rolling, singing and dancing),” added he, who is also a recording artist himself with singles such as Nawawala and Maghihintay.
The “Sparkle World Tour” was also mentioned by Ruru in an article previously published on The STAR.
“I will also be doing a tour this coming August to September in Canada,” said he, also hinting at a possible action project after the hit season two of “Lolong: Pangil ng Maynila,” and with the hope of doing another film, a follow-up to “Green Bones.” His performance in the latter earned him the Best Supporting Actor awards from last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, this year’s Box-Office Entertainment Award and the Eddys.

Ruru has also appeared as Ybrahim in the now airing “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre.”
“Siyempre, grateful dahil pangarap ko lang dati makapunta ng ibang bansa, di ba? (of course, I’m grateful because going abroad was just a dream back then),” said he about the opportunity of gracing the “Sparkle World Tour” during the media call. “Ngayon, makakapunta ako ng ibang bansa and at the same time, makapagpapasaya pa tayo ng kapwa nating Filipino dun (Now, I’m able to go to another country and also entertain fellow Pinoys living there).”
“Kapag may nakaka-kilala sa akin na kapwa ko Pinoy (when a kababayan recognizes me), para bang nakaka-humble at parang ma-fe-feel mo talaga na grateful ka (it humbles and makes me feel grateful) because kahit sa ibang bansa nakikilala ka at masaya sila na makasama ka (even in another country, they know you and are glad to see and be with you),” added he.
Instances like this do have a positive effect on him.
“So, ‘pag dating mo ng Pilipinas, ‘pag balik mo, ma-e-energize ka (when you return home, you feel energized) and lalo kang gaganahan na mag-trabaho (and you’re more motivated and inspired to work),” said he. “So, I’m very grateful, especially to the Sparkle and all the producers and sponsors.”
During the media event, Ruru also reflected that “kaming mga nandito sa industriya, mapa-artista ka man o singer, performer, dancer, anyone na nandito sa industryang ito (we, who are part of this industry — whether you’re an actor, a singer, a performer or a dancer), our goal is to entertain people).”
“So, siguro ang magiging mensahe lang namin dito ay gusto naming dalhin yung Pilipinas sa kanila (maybe our message to our fellow Filipinos in Canada is that we want to bring the country to you), kung ano yung saya na nararanasan natin dito (and the kind of happiness we experience at home),” added he, who is aware of the struggles and sacrifices Filipinos who work and live abroad, face and make, and that dream of giving their families either in the host country or back home a good life.
“Gusto naming lahat dalhin yung saya from the Philippines papunta duon sa Canada,” concluded he.
The joy these Pinoy artists like Ruru bring hopefully will add another spark of inspiration among our kababayan overseas.
