Ricky Davao’s ‘paramdam’ to his girlfriend Malca

All in the spirit of fun, here are my “Dollyisms” on the buzz du jour:
James Reid and Issa Pressman are said to be engaged already. If and when their wedding happens, the hashtag could be #AngkaisaISSAniJames or #JamesandIssaareREIDy.
Robin Padilla said, “Kahit sunugin mo ako, mangangamoy Rodrigo Duterte ako.” He should now be called RoBURN FIREdilla.
Tom Rodriguez shared photos of his family online for the first time but kept them partially hidden. Rodriquez shields his fam from “Peeping TOMs.”
Zeinab Harake and Bobby Ray Parks Jr tied the knot. Ray: From conquering the basketball NET to capturing a Queen of the InterNET.
‘Bubba’ butterfly
Last May 30, “Sis” Malca celebrated the birthday of her late “Bubba,” my good friend Ricky Davao, at a private resort in Bulacan with her family. At around 9 p.m., Sis messaged me, “Ricky is here.” Then, she sent a photo of a blue butterfly which was perched on the wall. It gave me goosebumps. With Malca’s permission, I am sharing her story. Here goes:
“I feel that the butterfly was Ricky’s way of telling me and my fam that he’s happy we got together for his birthday. I’m sure Bubba would have enjoyed the resort and he would have loved the food.
“The next day, the butterfly was still there. So, my Kuya got it. Then my Dad and I took the butterfly to ‘PETernit’ to have it preserved. I am still looking for a suitable frame for it. Aside from the butterfly, Bubba also makes his presence felt through the smell of flowers in my room. Even my son, Miguel, nakaamoy ng flowers. Perhaps, Bubba is making me bilin to Miguel. It comforts me to know that he’s watching over us.”
Wherever Malca is, Ricky will be there, too. Their love did not die with him.
So touching that the last post of Ricky on his Instagram (@rickyad) before he fell ill is a screen grab of a previous issue of this column. He thanked me for supporting his play, “Silver Lining: Redux” and he also thanked Malca (whom he addressed as “my silver lining”) for everything. Now, it’s my turn to thank dear Ricky for a friendship that stood the test of time and was devoid of anything showbiz.
New Series on Viva One
“Seducing Drake Palma” is a Wattpad sensation with more than 120 million reads to date. Written by Ariesa Jane Domingo, a.k.a. “Beeyotch,” the story comes to life in its series adaptation premiering June 15 on Viva One. Topbilled by Rabin Angeles (as Drake), Angela Muji (Alys) and Dylan Menor (Tripp), it is megged by Crisanto Aquino. If you are hooked on the book, what more with the series.
Alys tries to master the art of seduction to lure Drake, so he will stay away from the ex of her best friend. But Drake seems allergic to girls. Meanwhile, Tripp is tripping on Alys even if she fancies her bestie. Will the trio loco prove that what you resist will persist?
Here are quotes from Rabin, Angela, Dylan and Crisanto:
Rabin: “Although I’m grateful to land my first lead role, I refuse to feel that ‘bida’ na ako. I won’t let fame get into my head. I still have a lot to learn and improve on.”
Angela: “Just like the character I portray, I am clumsy, funny by nature and I get crazy when I’m in love.”
Dylan: “The entire cast made me feel so welcome. Even if I’m the only new one in the bunch since they all worked together before, I feel that I belong.”
Crisanto: “The chemistry of Rabin and Angela is effortless. It seems built-in so that makes my job a lot easier.”
Rabin: “There’s a scene where I had to cry my heart out as in hagulgol. That reminded me that we must not be afraid to show what we really feel. It’s not always good to suppress our emotions.”
Angela: “When I accepted the offer to be one of the lead stars, of course, I felt pressured. I had self-doubts if I could pull it off. But it’s a dream come true. So, I let the pressure motivate me instead.”
