MANILA, Philippines — Jenny Miller would have been enjoying the company of her 13-year-old child by now had she not suffered a miscarriage during the first trimester of her pregnancy.

It was in 2010 when Jenny and her then husband Cupid Feril were expecting a happy Christmas after the former learned that she was pregnant with their first child. However, things didn’t turn out well due to her delicate pregnancy.

“We were excited about our baby. But when we went in for the seventh week, I couldn’t believe that a simple trip to the bathroom to urinate would cause me to lose my baby,” recalled Jenny as she opened up on her traumatic experience.

“It happened in the evening and since the bathroom was just inside our bedroom, I thought it was fine to just go by myself, without disturbing my (ex) husband from his sleep to assist me.

“But when I got up from the (toilet) bowl, I saw that there was spotting. So, I called up my doctor who then advised me to go to the hospital as soon as possible but we failed to save the baby.”

Prior to that, Jenny was told by her OB-Gyne that she had a delicate pregnancy and the baby had a weak heartbeat. She was advised to be extra careful “kaya may yaya ako sa tabi ko lagi, ang daming meds at ‘pag gumagalaw ako, nahihilo talaga ako.”

The actress decided to cancel all her showbiz commitments and just stayed home. “I was bedridden for a month. Sadly, nangyari pa rin ‘yung ayaw mo mangyari. It’s really painful when you were expecting something that you’ve been longing to have then no matter how hard you try, like in my case, gustong-gusto ko magka-baby pero nawala,” she said.

It took a toll on her mental health, the 43-year-old actress admitted. “It was really traumatic in a sense that there’s this fear in me na kung mabubuntis ulit ako, kaya ko na bang talikuran ‘yung mga ginagawa ko kasi baka mangyari ulit ito, ang hirap.

“Alam mo ‘yung ang hirap pala mag-carry ng baby. Kasi ako, ilang weeks pa lang pero yung pag-iingat and all (to the point) na mag-iiba na talaga ang buhay mo.”

It took her a long time before she fully recovered from the pain of losing her baby. “Perhaps, one of the reasons why we were not blessed with another baby was our fear, natakot na kami na parang rest na lang muna.”

It became more difficult for her when challenges began to rock their marriage. “Parang marami na nangyari until there came a point that I could no longer save our marriage.”

Jenny revealed she fought for their marriage for three years before she decided to file for an annulment.

“The annulment of our church wedding has already been granted and he’s (ex-husband) already in the US. Ang inaayos ko ngayon ay ‘yung sa civil. He agreed to this but I’m shouldering all the expenses,” she declared.

Nevertheless, Jenny is not giving up hope to have her own baby one day. “I’m open to the idea of surrogacy but of course I have to be prepared financially. Pero ang inuuna ko ngayon, ‘yung magpa-freeze ng eggs since I don’t have a partner now. I’m hoping that I still have healthy eggs so I am being monitored by my OB-(Gyne).”

Meanwhile, Jenny expressed delight over her new endeavor as one of the incorporators in Nail Lounge by Asia’s. In fact, she is considering putting up a branch in her hometown Lucena, Quezon.

“We have a building there so I’m planning to open up the Nail Lounge on the second floor,” said Jenny, whose acting career is being managed by Star Magic.
