Nicholas Sparks' 'The Notebook' to be adapted into a Broadway musical
MANILA, Philippines — American romance novelist Nicholas Sparks has announced that his novel “The Notebook” is headed for Broadway as a musical.
In his Instagram account, the best-selling author said that Bekah Brunstetter will be writing the adaptation while singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson will handle the music and lyrics.
“I’m so excited to finally share the BIG NEWS... #TheNotebook is coming to #Broadway! You read that right. Playwright and #ThisIsUs producer Bekah Brunstetter will be writing the adaptation, with artist @IngridMichaelson handling music and lyrics. I‘m thrilled to work with Bekah, Ingrid and our whole team on bringing this beloved story to the stage,” Nicholas wrote.
Ingrid told NBC’s “Today” show that she’s been developing the musical for a year now. The musical will be produced in collaboration with Nicholas and Kevin McCollum and Kurt Deutsch.
Kevin's producing credits include “In the Heights,” “Avenue Q” and “The Play That Goes Wrong” while Kurt is the founder of Sh-K-Boom & Ghostlight Records, a leading Broadway cast album imprint.
Published in 1996, “The Notebook” was adapted into a hit 2004 movie, starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.The novel is about the undying love between a lumberyard worker and a rich girl who were separated because of their different social classes.
