MANILA, Philippines — There will be no back-to-back MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) wins for the Philippines this year.

Emerging Filipino band IV of Spades failed to win the MTV EMA for Best Southeast Asia Act this year, an honor that went to Malaysian rapper Joe Flizzow.

Last year, Kapamilya actor James Reid bagged the award, while Kapamilya singer Sarah Geronimo won it in 2014.

Flizzow is the first Malaysian artist to win the MTV EMA Southeast Asia Act.

Apart from IV of Spades, Joe defeated Indonesia’s Afgan, Vietnam’s Minh Hang, Singapore’s The Sam Willows and Thailand’s Slot Machine and Twopee Southside.

“I would like to thank MTV for this award. I'm truly humbled. I would like to dedicate this award to all my fans and friends from Malaysia. I believe this goes to show that even though we are small in numbers, when we come together united, we can achieve many things," Joe said in his acceptance speech.
