MANILA, Philippines — Jenny Han, author of best-selling young adult book “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” revealed over the weekend that one of her style inspirations for the lead character, Lara Jean, was a Filipina fashion blogger.
In a series of tweets, Jenny discussed the aesthetics of Lara Jean in the film adaptation of her young adult novel.
In my notes, I wrote, "It might not be what a teenaged guy would find sexy, but it’s what she feels pretty in, and for an introverted girl, it’s a way for her to express herself. Just like her bedroom." pic.twitter.com/41SExjjvdc

“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” was recently adapted into a film by online streaming giant, Netflix. It has been the talk on social media since it was released last August 17.
Jenny posted photos of her style inspiration mood board for Lara Jean’s character, which included Filipina fashion and lifestyle blogger, Tricia Gosingtian-Gabunada. Jenny said she made the mood board for the producers and directors of the film.
“I wanted them to understand that even though To All the Boys I've Loved Before is a contemporary realistic story and not Harry Potter or Hunger Games, her style is crucial to understanding the character,” Jenny wrote.
The author said she pictures Lara Jean, portrayed by Lana Condor, wearing “60s meets 90s meets Asian streetwear.”
“She is a girl that looks at Korean fashion blogs, goes to vintage shops, scours the internet for the perfect thing,” Jenny described.
“In my notes, I wrote, ‘It might not be what a teenaged guy would find sexy, but it’s what she feels pretty in, and for an introverted girl, it’s a way for her to express herself. Just like her bedroom,’” she added.
Jenny’s tweets reached Tricia, who gushed over the post. She thanked Jenny for including her as one of the style pegs.
