Sampaguita’s big 1952 movies

(Editor’s Note: Remember When? is celebrating its 24th anniversary this year. Featuring the author’s prized collection. RW predated by almost 20 years a radio program using the same title. That’s for the record.)

Newspapers and magazines carried ‘Sampaguita Pictures attractions for 1952…four more big films.’

In the same advertisement was the layout of the studio’s current movie, Barbaro, starring Pancho Magalona, Tita Duran and Tessie Martinez, directed by Enrique Moreno (Eddie Romero) and Francisco Coching.

Romero and Coching were later named National Artists.

Of the four attractions of 1952, two were written by Dr. Fausto Galauran, Madam X (Alicia Vergel, Cesar Ramirez, Gloria Romero, directed by Artemio Tecson) and Lihim ng Kumpisalan (Pancho Magalona, Linda Estrella, Rudy Francisco, directed by Olive La Torre).

The third was penned by Jose Esperanza Cruz, serialized in Liwayway Magazine, Mayamang Balo (Fred Montilla, Linda Estrella, Tessie Martinez, directed by Octavio Silos).

The fourth and last title was Palasig, written and illustrated by Francisco Coching and serialized in Liwayway. Directed by Artemio Tecson, Palasig starred Cesar Ramirez and Gloria Romero, billed Star for 1952. — RKC
