Denise Laurel doesn’t let health condition affect work

Joyce Jimenez - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines – Denise Laurel admits that her health condition is a challenge for her both as an actress and a performer.

“I have a nodule in my vocal cord,” she reveals in an interview on Thursday. She’s not supposed to over-work her vocal chords, which she’s not following due to the series of projects she has.

She’s part of the afternoon series “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailagan Kita” that now has a book two, and she’s one of the eight participants in the second season of “Your Face Sounds Familiar.”

“So I’m not even supposed to be talking but I’ll be singing and copying other people’s voices. So health-wise, may challenge talaga sa akin,” she said.

Many might not know that Denise was first discovered by Johnny Manahan while she was performing in a musical for Repertoire Philippines. But since she ventured into acting, she focused on that and somehow has forgotten about singing.

“For a time sinabi ko, wala naman gusto makarinig sa akin. So I just stopped trying,” she related. “I really appreciate it na they found me more in acting, which is great because I have grown and learned. Talagang ‘yong love ko for acting nag-grow pa even more. But of course singing, 'yon ang una kong natutunan, e.”

Now, she's ready to give singing and dancing another chance as she compete against Kean Cipriano, Sam Concepcion, KZ Tandingan, Kakai Bautista, Eric Nicolas, Myrtle Sarrosa and Michael Pangilinan in 'Your Face Sounds Familiar."

The show hosted by Billy Crawford and Melai Cantiveros starts airing on Sept. 12.
