A 'splash' of everything fun in 'Singin' in the Rain' musical

Philstar.com
MANILA, Philippines - What's more appropriate on a rainy season but to watch a musical celebrating it?

The West-End musical "Singin' In the Rain" is here in Manila to make the rainy season extra special with some entertaining dance numbers, a romantic but comedic love story, and some songs to sing along to as you watch the rain falling.

The musical was set in the year 1927, when the movies with sounds are slowly being developed. It was inspired by the story of MGM Studio that produced the first musical in a film starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.

The musical stars Grant Almirall as the lead male character Don Lockwood, Bethany Dickson as lead female character Kathy Selden, Taryn-Lee Hudson as the "triple threat" actress Lina Lamout, and Steven van Wyk as Don's best friend Cosmo.

There was no dull moment at the musical which lasted for two and a half hours.

Here are some of the things you may love about "Singin' In the Rain" musical.

1. The songs

Of course the songs, it's a musical anyway. A millennial watching this can totally enjoy the hits they used like "Singin' In the Rain," "Good Morning," "Make 'em Laugh," and "You're My Lucky Star," which you'll unconsciously sing as you exit the venue.

2. The stage

It make look just an ordinary stage at first, simply replicating the streets of Hollywood in the '50s. But once the lights are on or the backdrops positioned or the rain starts pouring, you'll never look at it the same way again.

3. Water Splash!

This may sound silly, but those seated on the first three rows of the theater may agree that they enjoyed being splashed with water. Go watch the musical and experience it yourself.

4. Sneak peek on the life of an actor

People often identify celebrities by the characters they portray in their projects. This musical opens the eyes of the public that behind the glamor and attention they get, after all, celebrities are humans too.

5. The history of film

For some, history can be boring. Good thing they were able to narrate the history of film in a fun and entertaining way. Add to that an idea on how they were able to produce those stuff they flash on the silver screen.

Catch "Singin' In the Rain" until September 13 at the The Theater in Solaire Resort and Casino.

It is brought in Manila by David Atkins Enterprise, Michael Cassel Group, Concertus Manila, Dainty Group, and Lunchbox Theatrical Production. Produced by Stage Entertainment and Chichester Festival Theatre.
