TV5’s Interaksyon relives Battle of Manila

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of one of the most historical events that eventually led to the country’s liberation during World War II, TV5’s online news portal, InterAksyon.com, gives Filipinos from all walks of life the chance to relive and remember the Battle of Manila with the launch of its interactive War and Re-Building online campaign.

As part of InterAksyon.com’s Memory Project — a special umbrella campaign that introduces a series of thematic microsites — the War and Re-Building online campaign is ultimately dedicated to help the youth gain newfound information and more appreciation towards this particular key event in our country’s colorful history.

InterAksyon.com recently kicked off the campaign with the launch of its comprehensive microsite, www.InterAksyon.com/war-and-rebuilding, that gives a historical account of the Battle of Manila. Aside from the compelling library of images, stories and information that shed light on the event, the microsite also gives netizens an experiential treatment via the Visita De Guerra section, which offers a guided tour of Manila’s landmarks that figured the most during the liberation battle. The section likewise features a downloadable map that showcases even those areas that once stood in glory but could no longer be restored due to the damage caused by the war.

InterAksyon will also be launching free-admission on-ground activities to give the Filipino public a chance to know more about the Battle of Manila. This includes the special week-long War and Re-building photo exhibit that will run until March 3 at the Robinsons Manila Midtown Atrium, featuring actual photos of Manila’s most historical landmarks during the war.

The general public is also invited to the special free screening of the short film Orders from Tokyo tomorrow, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m., at the Robinsons Manila Midtown Atrium Cinema 1. The docu-film, as narrated by USMC Captain David Griffin, shows actual statistics and footage of the country’s war-torn state during the World War II.
