Bianca King balances showbiz work with personal passions

MANILA, Philippines – Bianca King, who used to be a contract star of GMA-7, says she enjoys being a freelance artist.

The 28-year-old actress — who will be part of TV5's “Wattpad Presents: His Secretary” with John James Uy — said working with TV5, after years of working with the Kapuso network, made her “feel like an artist.” She first worked with the Kapatid network earlier this year in the weekly drama “Obsession.”

“They really make me feel like an artist. I feel the respect, I feel the love, I feel like I'm appreciated. 'Yun 'yung motivation ko na mag-perform ng maganda kasi yung nagparamdam sa akin na importante ako. So I'm happy, and I'm very thankful,” Bianca said.

She added, “Work is work. Hindi ko iniisip kung saang network ba 'yan or whatever. Kung maganda 'yung proyekto, blessing 'yan kay Lord na may trabaho.”

It took eight months before Bianca worked on a showbiz project after “Obsession.” The actress said appreciated the time off because it allowed her to work on other projects outside showbiz.

“Wala na ako sa posisyon na umiikot 'yung buong mundo ko sa showbiz,” Bianca said. “Hindi siya naging kaso sa akin kasi nakapag-focus ako sa napakaraming bagay. Marami akong pinagkaabalahan na hindi ko magagawa kung hindi ako binigyan ni Lord ng oras.”

She established two business venture: a restaurant called Runner's Kitchen in Quezon City set to open this December and the yoga studio Beyond in Makati City.

Bianca also took up culinary arts courses at the Center for Culinary Arts. 

Bianca said she has developed a passion for promoting clean living and healthy lifestyle, thus the theme of her recent non-showbiz endeavors. 

“Sana maka-influence ako ng maganda sa lahat ng tao, na kung gaano kaimportante ang physical fitness, ang health management,” Bianca said.

“Alam naman ng lahat na nagkasakit yung dad ko, pati yung lola ko. They got sick both at the same time. That was two years ago, so namulat ako sa halaga ng health management,” she explained. 

“My motivation as an entrepreneur is to give people places to eat properly and exercise. I hope they're received well by the public because these are passion projects that come from the heart.”

Showbiz, of course, will remain a priority if she has an acting project.

“Definitely kapag may acting project, it's my number one priority. Syempre, bread and butter ko 'yun e. Hindi naman ako makakagawa ng ipon to invest in business kung hindi ako umaarte,” she said.

Bianca further explained, “So showbiz is still the priority. I still need to be relevant in order to help my businesses flourish. But at the same time, bilang adult na ako, matagal kong pinagisipan ko saan ko pwede gamitin yung pinagipunan ko. At the same time, kaya rin ako nagsisipag umarte kasi kailangan ko kumita ng malaki in order to pursue my other dreams outside of show business.”

Bianca is currently in a relationship with Julio Villafuerte. But she said her decision to go into business is not because of any plans to settle down any time soon.

“'Yung pagpasok sa business, wala naman siyang kinalaman talaga sa dahil gusto ko na mag-asawa or whatever. Ano lang siya, bilang practical lang” Bianca said.

“And bilang babae, hindi mo talaga masasabi kung kailan ka magpapakasal. Depende pa rin 'yun sa babae,” she added.

“Wala siya sa isip ko. Kung kailan siya ibibigay, tatanggapin ko. Pero as of now, hindi ako yung mamimilit na, 'Kailangan by 30 years old, kasal na ako'.”

“His Secretary” will air starting December 1 as part of “Wattpad Presents” at 9:30 p.m. on TV5.
