Chito Miranda: In our chaotic world, Neri is my anchor

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines - “Light and fun” is how Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda describes her upcoming wedding to actress Neri Naig.
The two, who got engaged last May, are set to marry on Dec. 14, 2014.
“Masaya, actually. I'm enjoying it. It's stressful, in a way, because wedding preparations are always stressful. But for us, enjoy naman. We're just having fun with it. And even the wedding is just light and fun,” Chito told Philstar.com on the sidelines of the 5th Elements National Singing Songwriting Camp in Dumaguete City on Tuesday.
It can be remembered that Chito and Neri figured in a sex video scandal last year.
But the couple has moved past the controversy, with the singer saying his relationship with Neri now is “definitely masaya.”
“Sobrang positive, motivating force talaga sa buhay ko si Neri,” he said.
Chito describes Neri as his “anchor.”
“Sa chaotic na mundo namin, it gives me an anchor to something I'm really comfortable with. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life, which is spend my life with her,” he said.
Go out and find new music
Chito is at the national music camp in Dumaguete as one of the mentors to the 60 young music artists who are part of the annual music event. This is his third time to participate in the music camp.
“It refreshes my passion for song writing,” he said of the music camp. “They just use the words mentors and campers, pero honestly the mentors learn more from the campers talaga kasi we are exposed to new styles and everything. Talagang nakaka-inspire yung mga kids.”
He is amazed the young, new talent out there in the current music scene.
“The kids now are several times more brilliant than when we were kids. Yung skills talaga nila, sobrang galing talaga nila ngayon,” Chito said.
“And dati you have to please your label and the masses. Now, wala silang pakialam talaga dun. Gawa ka lang ng kanta sa Youtube. May total freedom sila. They can do whatever they want. Ang galing talaga e, kasi they can explore realms na we never thought na galawan.”
Although he admits it is no longer “as commercially successful as before,” Chito said the music scene is “as vibrant as ever.”
“Honestly, if you look past that (commercial success), if you look past kung ano yung nakikita sa GMA at ABS-CBN, you'll see how big the music scene is, kung gaano karaming bandang magagaling ngayon,” he said. “And I think they're comfortable with that. Kasi before, you have to rely on music stations and the major networks. Ngayon, wala na silang pakialam doon. They just continue making music.”
Chito's message to those who would think otherwise? Go out and go beyond what the mainstream is serving.
“It's the responsibility of the audience to look out and go out on their way to find it—unlike before when they serve it you through mainstream,” he said.
He also said, “If you see the new bands ngayon, the indie bands, sobrang gagaling talaga, if you had the chance to see them.”
