Mariah shakes off ‘doubts’ at concert

Lawrence Lee - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The heavy weekday traffic in the Metro and drizzle were not enough to prevent fans of Mariah Carey from storming the Mall of Asia Arena, to watch her perform her hits in the Elusive Chanteuse concert tour the other night.

Fans roared, cheered and grooved as soon as the timeless diva hit the stage and kicked off the show with Fantasy, Touch My Body and Shake It Off

Mariah shook off doubts (from her previous shows abroad where she had “vocal issues”), and evidently proved that she still has “it” when she sang We Belong Together, and Emotions, which showcased her signature whistle. M.C. also highlighted her R&B side by performing Honey, Heartbreaker and Thirsty.

Although her vocal prowess was still there, she wasn’t able to hit some notable high notes when she sang Hero and I’ll Be There. However, Mariah seemed so comfortable with the crowd, and was talkative, which the audience loved. She even interacted with them in the middle of her songs, and repeatedly stated that she was having a “great time,” and showed her love by saying, “Mahal kita, Manila!”

M.C. sang Always Be My Baby for her last song, however, the jam-packed arena expected more than just one song for an encore from the Timeless Diva, as it seemed that the crowd did not want the night to end.

After the unforgettable evening, the Elusive Chanteuse proved why she was able to stay more than two decades in the music scene, and that she will always be our baby.
