Kris’ Torpe a winner

MANILA, Philippines - Judging from the numerous hits, downloads and the persistent buzz that it has been generating on social media, Kris Lawrence’s (photo) Torpe has the makings of a big winner, never mind if it only placed second runner-up in the recently-concluded finals of the 2014 Philpop songwriting competition.

Surprised by the song’s strong airplay as well, Kris proudly beams, “The fact that even after the Philpop finals night it’s still getting airplay means a lot to me. That alone makes me feel like a winner. I’m very honored that they chose me to record this song.”

The R&B singer-composer, who is currently finishing his fourth album for Universal Records, has only good things to say about the Philpop’s widespread success and its ongoing crusade to nurture the creativity of budding OPM composers.
