MANILA, Philippines - She's known for being outspoken—especially in interviews about her rift with sister Claudine Barretto and her parents.
But actress Gretchen Barretto said she has learned how to keep her mouth shut, saying the truth will come out eventually when she is facing intrigues and controversies.
“I guess natututo na rin akong tumahimik. Magtikom ng bibig, sabi nga nila,” she told members of the press during her launch as the newest endorser of jewelry brand Karat World on Monday, July 28.
Gretchen added: “Just let God take care of everything. The truth will always come out. So 'yung mga bashing na yan, let it happen. And then later on, yung katotohanan ang lalabas.”
The topic came up when reporters asked the ABS-CBN actress how she supports sister Marjorie, who recently made the headlines.
This was after it was reported that Marjorie's daughter Julia Barretto filed a legal request to drop her father Dennis Padilla's surname.
Gretchen said she prays for Marjorie. “Napakalakas na babae ni Marjorie. Prayerful din siya. We're not perfect, meron din kaming mga kasalanan pero I think what we have is our faith in God,” she said.
Asked if she gets hurt for Marjorie whenever the latter gets bashed, particularly online, Gretchen said: “Normal lang naman na masaktan ng konti. Tao lang tayo. Pero ang pagsubok sa buhay, dumarating talaga yan. How we deal with it, how we face it, and how we react to every situation is a different story.”
She added, “Bilib na bilib ako kay Marjorie.”
But true to her word of knowing when to keep quiet, Gretchen refused to further comment on the issue.
“If there's anybody who should answer, let Marjorie and Julia be the one,” she said.
She further quipped, “And when the proper time comes, who knows, baka sagutin nila next week.”
Amid constant controversies, Gretchen chooses to look on the bright side of life. “I've always been positive. I think 'yun ang secret ko sa buhay. Para naman 'yung dumating sa akin, positive rin,” she said.
