Angelina Jolie hopes to inspire in ‘Maleficent’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Angelina Jolie is hoping that girls would be inspired with her upcoming film "Maleficent."

Jolie believes that the film would help girls “see the importance of having a sense of justice and a sense of what’s fair and what’s worth fighting for."

“They’ll see that they can be warriors and at the same time soft and feminine and deeply feeling, with all the complexities women have,” she said.

Back in her childhood years, Jolie said that she both loved and feared the “Sleeping Beauty” villainess.

After reading the script, she have grown to love the character more. “I was really moved by the script from first reading.”

“It was like uncovering a great mystery. We all know the story of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and we all know Maleficent and what happened at the christening because we’ve all grown up with that. But what we’ve never known is, what happened before?” she added.

Meanwhile, her co-star Elle Fanning who plays the role of Aurora have nothing but good words for Jolie.

“It’s really been amazing,” gushed Fanning, describing Jolie. “I remember meeting her for the first time in London. I had never met her before, and she gave me a big hug. She said we were just going to have so much fun together. And we did have a lot of fun. It’s been great.”

With so much passion and cooperation from the cast, the film’s director Robert Stromberg, believes that the people will be moved by the story behind Maleficent’s anger and revenge.

“Maleficent” will be in Philippine cinemas starting May 28 in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D formats.
