When the trailer of The Legal Wife was shown on TV, viewers and netizens started talking about it.

The show’s trailer, which now has over a million views on YouTube, featured a rapid-fire exchange of infuriated, familiar and well-delivered lines between Adrian’s (Jericho Rosales) wife Monica (Angel Locsin) and his mistress Nicole (Maja Salvador).

The confrontation scene in the trailer was well-received that it spawned several memes that went viral and created buzz on social media for the show. 

“We are really amazed that viewers are emotionally attached to the show. At first, viewers may think the show is just about infidelity, but it’s not. We are here to give viewers a beautiful story that is relatable, because all of us have loved and have been hurt,” shared Angel.

Directed by Rory Quintos and Dado Lumibao, The Legal Wife shares the journey of a devoted wife and mother Monica, whose life was shattered upon realizing that her husband is having an affair with her best friend.

“Because of Monica, I realized that I need to be strong in order to face all the trials in my life, especially if my family is affected,” Angel explained.

Like Angel, Jericho believes that their show gives the audience a fresh take on a familiar love triangle drama.

“Infidelity is such a sensitive topic, but I believe that this is the right time to make everyone understand why this happens, and why people end up in this situation. We want viewers to understand the real problems faced by married men, their wives, their families and their relationships with others,” Jericho said.

Maja, on the other hand, feels that despite being the most hated character in the series today, people can relate to the personal struggles of Nicole.

“I think every viewer can connect to her because in real life, we all experience love and pain. All Nicole wants is to feel appreciated and she is jealous of Monica,” Maja said.

The show has been enjoying high TV viewership as seen in its strong TV ratings. People are also talking about it in social gatherings, offices and even online through social media. 

For legal wife and certified Legalista Rosario Piedad-Torres, she religiously follows the show on TV and online because Monica’s ordeal somehow serves as an eye-opener.

“I’m learning a lot from Monica. Through her experiences, I get ideas on how to handle certain situations like when you feel that your husband is cheating,” she said.

The Filipino Channel (TFC) subscriber, Nenita Bohol from Sydney, Australia, meanwhile, said she is hooked on the show because of the big revelations every night.  

“It really pained me, especially when Monica finally discovered the affair and nearly hit Adrian and Monica with her car. Everyone at home was highly emotional that night,” she said.

Sheila Bell, another TFC subscriber based in New York, said the viewers can connect to the characters’ experiences. 

“The story is great and universal. Everyone hates queridas,” Sheila said.

Now that Monica is the “consumed wife” (as the show’s latest art card describes), Legalistas worldwide are all on the edge of their seats, wondering as to how long she can endure and stay strong for the sake of her family. Or will the legal wife choose to let go?
