Camay Girls of the ’50s (Last of 3 parts)

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

Due to insistent demand from senior readers, Funfare is putting out the last of the three-part feature on the Camay Girls of the ‘50s, following the first (in August 2012) and the second (Sept. 2012).

The beauty soap’s print ads carried this blurb: Screen stars use Camay, the soap of beautiful women.

Here’s the third batch of stars and starlets from different film studios that graced the silver screen in that era, including their beauty tips, also compiled by this corner’s “other beauty expert” Celso de Guzman Caparas:

• Ana Cristina — â€œCamay’s luxurious, beauty-conditioning lather gives my complexion a fascinating look that tops for camera close-ups. That’s why Camay’s my favorite beauty care.”

• Diana Recto — â€œMy Camay complexion is beauty-right for even the most romantic close-ups.”

• Emma Ledesma â€” “Lovelier complexions begin with extra-gentle Camay!”

• Inday Jalandoni — â€œWith Camay’s gentle care, I’m always sure of a flawless complexion and a fresh well-groomed appearance off and on the screen.” (Jalandoni was the mother of actress Alona Alegre.)

• Laura Balagtas — â€œI always use Camay because my complexion stays soft and smooth, fresh and radiant.”

• Leila Morena — “Harsh soaps leave skin rough, use Camay for a lovelier complexion.”

• Letty Alonzo — “Make loveliness a daily habit with extra-gentle Camay!”

• Lolita Rodriguez — â€œI’d like to recommend Camay’s new fragrance to all girls and women who want longer-lasting loveliness.”

• Lupe Velasco — â€œAnong lambot, makinis na kutis, kaya lagi akong gumagamit ng Camay!”

• Luz Kahanding â€” “I can’t take chances with my complexion so I depend on Camay to keep my complexion smooth, soft and always lovely.”

• Nela Alvarez — “Sa mga sabong ginamit ko na ay walang makakapantay sa Camay sapagka’t ang malapot at mabangong bula nito ay nagdudulot sa akin ng malambot, makinis at sariwang kutis.”

• Nida Blanca â€” “Camay beauty soap for complexion and bath gives me extra confidence before the camera!”

• Norma Buenaobra — â€œAnong pagkarilag-rilag na kutis ko kaya ako’y laging gumagamit ng Camay!”

• Olivia Cenizal — â€œWhite Camay cleanses so gently, leaves my skin smoother, softer!” (Note: Gloria Maigue in real life, she was crowned Miss Mindanao 1947 in the PAL-sponsored Miss Philippines contest won by Evangeline de Castro. Olivia married composer Josefino Cenizal.)

• Tessie Villamor — â€œNow that I have discovered Camay, I can’t simply afford to be without it.”
