Angelica describes doing indie film as ‘humbling experience’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - It was Angelica Panganiban’s first time to do an independent film, and it became so memorable for her.

First reason is that she bagged the Best Actress award for the film entry “Alamat ni China Doll,” which was directed by Adolf Alix Jr.

“Hindi ko po talaga ine-expect na manalo kasi wala po talaga akong alam sa paggawa ng indie film,” she said during her speech at the Cinema One Originals awards night last Saturday, Nov. 16.

During an interview before she left the venue, Angelica admits that she was worried about accepting the project. She even remembers direk Adolf telling her to determine if she really wants to do the project.

But in the end, “naging mas matimbang yung gusto ko siyang gawin.” And looking back, Angelica didn’t have regrets of accepting the project because of the experience she had while doing the film.

Since most of the films she’s doing are for mainstream, she described her experience as “lakas maka-tao ng experience. Walang arti-artista, lahat hindi puwedeng maarte. So ibang-iba ang experience, very humbling ang experience kapag nasa indie film ka.”

She also adjusted in the fast phase of the work, which she compared to doing a TV series. But all in all, the Kapamilya actress enjoyed her experience that if she’ll be given another chance of doing another independent film, she won’t think twice and just say yes.
