Infidelity a big no-no for #MHL's Tom Rodriguez

MANILA, Philippines - Tom Rodriguez may be playing the unfaithful closeted gay husband Vincent Soriano in the GMA-7 primetime soap opera “My Husband’s Lover.” But in real life, he would not tolerate infidelity in his own relationship.

In an interview at the set of the Kapuso drama series, the entertainment press asked Tom if he would forgive his hypothetical wife in case he finds out she has a lesbian lover.

“Hindi ko tatanggapin whether lesbian man o lalaki ang magiging lover ng asawa ko,” the Kapuso actor answered.” Hindi ko matatanggap kasi infidelity yun.”

He added: â€œ'Pag kasal kayo, you have a sacred contract not just with each other but also with the Lord.”

Tom believes the key to a successful relationship is “being true to yourself.”

“Kasi kung ganun na lang, split up. Either way, may masasaktan naman, e. So ano pipiliin mo, magsinungaling ka sa sarili mo o magsinungaling ka sa lahat?” he added.

‘Zero percent’

Tom, who starred in ABS-CBN’s “Be Careful with My Heart” prior to his move to GMA 7, is getting a lot of questions about homosexuality and infidelity lately because of his role in “My Husband’s Lover.” And while speculations about his and Dennis’ sexual orientation or whether the two of them will end up together amuses and baffles him (for the record, they’re both straight), Tom relishes this particular moment in his career.

“I’m amazed and overwhelmed. Lahat ito hindi ko ini-expect. Lahat ito nakakapanibago, pero at the same time, nakakataba ng puso yung mga reaksyon ng tao,” he said.

“Hindi lang siguro double-take ang ginagawa ko. Double-take times a million sa mga nangyayari, kung totoo ba o nananaginip lang ako,” Tom added. “Ang sarap, ang sarap po pala ng pakiramdam.”

The buzz over “My Husband’s Lover” was unexpected, he said.

“Parang kung mathematical equation ito, zero percent ang isasagot namin dahil 'di namin ma-compute talaga,” he said of the show’s success.

As for the criticism and scrutiny the show received due to its considerably edgy and controversial topic, Tom said everyone in the show welcomes the attention.

“Everyone is free to have their own opinion but we still have to have that level of respect for each other,” he said.
