Copa Libertadores round
MANILA, Philippines - The Copa Libertadores round of 16 starts with a crucial match-up between fourth seed Corinthians and 13th seed Boca Juniors, followed by a battle between first seed Atletico and 16th seed Sao Paulo the following day.
In the round of 16, each team — despite their standing — plays in a single-elimination tournament. All the squads involved, who are hoping to come out victorious, will need to win every game they play to avoid an early exit.
In the first game, the struggling Boca Juniors, who have only won once in their last five games, will be facing a Corinthians team that has been on fire lately, piling up four wins in their last five match-ups.
The Boca Juniors will also be looking forward to this game as they have yet to win against their opponent in the history of the tournament. The last time these two squads faced off, Corinthians won, 2-0.
In the following game, the top-seeded Atletico will try to avoid being upset by Sao Paulo, who won only two of their six games in the elimination round.
But despite being the lower seed and underdog in the match-up, Sao Paulo has had the number of their rivals, beating Atletico in three out of their last five contests. They were also the only team to beat Atletico during the eliminations.
