OPM is not dead, holding music fest

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - What is OPM all about? There have been many discussions about whether or not OPM is dead. Truth is, OPM begins with the creativity of our artists and that is very much alive. Yet, it should not end there.

For OPM to thrive, it does need support and this isn’t just from the music industry. It should come from all of us.

Pinoys may not realize it but every time they listen to an OPM song, share, like it, sing it alone or with friends, use it for weddings, buy an album or a concert ticket, dance, cry, or laugh to it, they show their support for it. OPM is about us, Filipinos, so we should care for it.

In recognition of this simple truth, the OPM MEANS Movement was born. OPM MEANS shows that the music is many things whether to a songwriter or a fan, a singer or a sponsor, a media partner or even to an NGO. However, people see OPM, the music does mean something to everyone.

Joining forces to share a united voice in an effort to speak one message of support for OPM are entities that champion and rally for the growth of OPM. These are Radio Republic, Kopiko coffee, Lenovo Mobile, Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM), OPM2Go, RockEd Philippines, 7101 Music Nation and Media Nation.

To launch this message, a two-day all-OPM Music Festival will be held tomorrow, Feb. 22, and on Feb. 23 at the Hot Air Balloon Festival at the OMNI Aviaton Complex, Clark Freeport, Pampanga. The event’s performers are Ryan Cayabyab, Ogie Alcasid, Joey Ayala, Dingdong Avanzado, Jessa Zaragoza, The Dawn, Gloc-9, Ebe Dancel, Quest, Julianne Tarroja, Salamin, Spongecola, Urbandub, Wolfgang, Yeng Constantino, Q-York, Mike Kosa, Color It Red and AJ Rafael.

Tickets are available at the gate for P250 per day. But it is free for everyone who is already at the Hot Air Balloon Festival.

OPM MEANS will roll out throughout 2013 through various events.
