Cinema One presents Piolo’s best romantic films
MANILA, Philippines - Get your weekly dose of heart-fluttering Piolo Pascual films on Cinema One this month as it presents the award winning actor-singer on the channel’s Romance Central Block, Sunday nights at 6. Watch out for his films 9 Mornings, Paano Kita Iibigin, Milan and Till There Was You.
The 2002 film by Jose Javier Reyes, 9 Mornings, is a romantic comedy film starring Piolo and Donita Rose. He plays Gene, the workaholic obsessive-compulsive event organizer who has a tragic past that resulted to his loss of faith and belief in God. The conflict begins when his late grandmother leaves him wealth in a condition that he should complete the nine dawn-masses (simbang gabi), a religious practice he abhors. 9 Mornings airs tomorrow, Jan. 6.
Paano Kita Iibigin is Joyce Bernal’s 2007 film starring Piolo and Regine Velasquez that revolves around the romance between Martee (Regine), a bAroke and recently unemployed single mother and Lance (Piolo) a rich and arrogant resort owner. The two meet when Martee decides to flee from the city to find comfort in Lance’s resort where Martee’s son accidentally damages an expensive motorcycle prompting her to work for Lance as payment for the damages. Paano Kita Iibigin which also stars Eugene Domingo, Erich Gonzales and Iya Villania marked the first time that Piolo worked with Viva Films and the first time that Regine worked with Star Cinema. It airs on Jan. 13.
The 2004 blockbuster hit, Milan, directed by Olivia Lamasan and shot in different cities in Italy stars Piolo and Claudine Barretto and mirrors the life of Filipino migrant workers who found love and refuge in each other. Piolo and Claudine’s performance as Lino and Jenny garnered them the prestigious Best Actor and Best Actress awards in FAMAS while the film was nominated for Best Picture. According to a review on Showbizpinoy.com, “Piolo was able to convey various layers of emotions in the most effective manner all throughout the movie. You feel his sadness, desperation and helplessness in this foreign land.†The film also stars Iza Calzado, Ryan Eigenmann and Lotlot de Leon and airs on Jan. 20.
Piolo and Judy Ann Santos stars in their third blockbuster hit Till There Was You directed by Joyce Bernal. A short bus ride begins the romantic film where Joanna (Judy Ann) leaves a book with her photograph in it, picked and kept hidden through the years by Albert (Piolo), a single father. Joanna was drawn into the lives of Albert and his daughter Pippa when the latter saw her by chance and remembered her face in the photograph that she always thought was her long-lost mother. Till There Was You airs on Jan. 27.
