Argentine Cinema Exhibition set

Manila, Philippines - The 2012 Argentine Cinema Exhibition presents a varied selection of recent productions and classics of Argentine cinematography. Below are the schedules:

Aug. 2, 7 p.m., El Mural (Héctor Olivera, 2010). It is a biopic depicting the trip to Buenos Aires of Mexican artist David Alfaro Siqueiros, who in the early 20th Century was commissioned to paint one of his famous murals for one of the most powerful media barons in Argentina.

Aug. 4, 2 p.m., Carancho (Pablo Trapero, 2010). It is a  love story between an unscrupulous lawyer (Ricardo Darín) and a young medical doctor (Martina Gusman) set against the backdrop of a murky weave of interests behind traffic accidents in Argentina.

Aug. 11, 2 p.m., Aballay, el hombre sin miedo (Fernando Spiner, 2010). In northern Argentina, a violent and ruthless gaucho has a revealing experience that makes him conscious of his own savagery and leads him to abandon his criminal life in a process that will transform him and make him into a legend.

Aug. 18, 2 p.m., Cortázar (Tristán Bauer, 1994) It is a documentary film portraying the life of renowned Argentine writer Julio Cortázar through interviews with the author and recreations of some of his most celebrated stories.

Aug. 25, 2 p.m., Camila (María Luisa Bemberg, 1984). In 1840s Buenos Aires a beautiful young socialite named Camila (Susú Pecoraro) and a Jesuit priest (Imanol Arias) fall in love and start an impossible romance in times of prejudice and moralistic pressures.

Aug. 30, 6 p.m., La deuda interna (Miguel Pereira, 1988). In Chorcán, Jujuy, a young aboriginal meets a rural teacher newly arrived from distant Buenos Aires. Among themselves a fraternal friendship will develop only to be interrupted when the youngster is drafted to combat in the Malvinas Islands.

All screenings, open to the public, will be held at the Instituto Cervantes, 855 T.M. Kalaw St., Ermita, Manila.
