Matanglawin celebrates Independence Day

MANILA, Philippines - Kim Atienza and Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Unlimited Big Winner Slater Young give viewers a free educational field trip to the Aguinaldo ancestral house as Kim discovers some of the country’s prized national symbols today at 9:15 a.m. in the Independence Day special of ABS-CBN’s Matanglawin.

The Trivia King shares information about various Philippine emblems and symbols including the national flag. The Phillippine flag is significant that the date of the country’s Independence Day was moved from July 4 to June 12 when it was first unfurled in Kawit, Cavite by first President Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. Do Filipinos still value these symbols? Kim puts the madlang people to test as he randomly asks them to sing the Philippine National Anthem.

Slater explores the famous Independence balcony in the historic Aguinaldo Mansion, where Philippine independence was proclaimed. The historical house is said to have secret passages that can actually lead to the church in Kawit.

Slater is also set to make history as he becomes the first-ever celebrity guest to the Aguinaldo mansion who gets to go down to its bomb shelter.

Matanglawin is part of ABS-CBN Bida Best Kid campaign launched recently that empowers children by encouraging them to become who they want to be and the best that they can be. It doesn’t only entertain and educate its young viewers with its values-oriented, child-friendly programs, but supports their dreams and aspirations as well.
