Shamcey simply shines

“Well done” would be an understatement to describe how Shamcey Supsup performed at the recent 2011 Miss Universe in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She may have not captured the crown but she definitely captured the hearts of millions of viewers with her beauty, poise and character.

Shamcey was every inch the ideal beauty queen — gorgeous, composed and very articulate.

I personally witnessed how this pretty lady bloomed into a captivating woman that she is now. Shamcey was naturally gifted but what her advantage is her discipline and dedication. During training, I tried to help as much as I could, sharing my experience hoping that she would take helpful tips. When she won, I felt like I did, too (I’m sure a lot of Filipinos felt this as well). She is also humble, always recognizing the fact that there is always room for improvement. This pushes her to work even harder. And see where it got her. I can only imagine what else is in store for her. Her triumph will definitely open great opportunities.

At such a young age, Shamcey has already achieved so much. A magna cum laude graduate of the country’s premier university and a board top notcher, then her beauty title, she seems to have it all at this point. But with her spirit of humility, she would be the first to say there is so much more to work on.

I am so happy that Shamcey is a rare gem who just came at the right time. She is an excellent role model to women of all ages, especially young girls. I am sure her mother’s joy is simply without bounds. It was her who encouraged Shamcey to pursue this path, and her daughter obediently followed. Her obedience definitely paid off.

Shamcey’s answer to the final question is also a testament of her character’s strength. Uncompromising when it comes to her faith and values, she replied with confidence and conviction, definitely from the heart. And I agree with her 100 percent.

I am such a proud “sister” of Shamcey. Watching her take the spotlight on the international stage and not waver one bit was simply a moment of pride for all Filipinos.
