Kapuso stars join Kagay-an Festival

MANILA, Philippines - With the warm welcome extended by the people of Cagayan de Oro to GMA Network during its Kagay-an Festival Kapuso Night — 5,000 Kagay-anon fans showed up to see their favorite Kapuso artists — there is no doubt that the city lives up to its name as the city of Golden Friendship. No less than Munting Heredera star Katrina Halili, Futbolilits’ Daniel Matsunaga, siblings Michelle Madrigal and Ehra Madrigal plus Will Devaughn joined the festival during the Kapuso Night at SM City Cagayan de Oro last month. Each rendered a song or two with the Kagay-anon crowd jiving to the beat. Meanwhile, Daniel and Will made four young ladies blush as they participated in a game with them.

John Feir of Iglot and Pepito Manaloto, Anna Maris Igpit of GMA Cebu and Resci Rizada of GMA Davao hosted the event.

“I’m very surprised and thankful that in spite of the rains, so many people went out of their homes to see us perform. I hope they had a great time with us because we definitely had a blast,” shared Daniel. The Kapuso Night at SM was just the cherry on top of GMA’s participation in the Kagay-an Festival. The celebration kicked off on Aug. 24 when Party Pilipinas mainstay Jay-R serenaded the contestants of this year’s Miss Kagay-an. With him was beauty queen Krista Kleiner, who served as judge.

The following day, Anna Maris together with GMA TV CDO’s Isyu Karon reporter Joyce Vega led the PE Rhythmic Dance Festival held at the Pelaez Sports Center. GMA News TV’s Balita Pilipinas Ngayon anchor Mark Salazar was also in CDO last Aug. 26 to showcase some of GMA News and Public Affairs’ topnotch documentaries via the Serbisyong Totoo Docu-Fest. Held at the Xavier University Little Theater, Mark answered questions from the audience, majority of whom were students. A Kapuso Barangayan: Serbisyong Totoo Hatid ng GMA News and Public Affairs was also mounted on the same day at Brgy. Bonbon where the team offered free medical check-up and snacks for the residents.

Mike Tan, meanwhile, escorted the winners of Miss Kagay-an during the Golden Float Parade. Hundreds of Kagay-anons lined up along Rodelsa Circle, Paseo del Rio and Limketkai Center to have a glimpse of the newly-crowned Miss Kagay-an 2011, Angel Carbajal. Angel was also chosen as Miss Kagay-an Kapuso 2011 and was awarded a Kapuso plaque plus a cash prize of P10,000.

The highlights of the festival can be seen via the TV special Kapuso Fiesta featuring Kagay-an Festival airing on all eight regional TV stations nationwide (CDO, Cebu, Bacolod, Dagupan, Davao, General Santos, Iloilo and Naga) on Sept. 11, 8:30 a.m.
