Rex back in Manila
MANILA, Philippines - Rex Navarrete comes back to Manila with an all-new act after over a year-long hiatus. Laugh until your sides hurt with Rex and his funny and quirky observations of life in general and on being a Filipino, including his hilarious take on a famous global boxing icon.
Rex, who recently had his national TV late-night debut in Lopez Tonight on the TBS Network, has been a comedian for 22 years playing in established stand-up comedy venues such as the The Punchline, The Improvs, The Laugh Factory and the Gotham Comedy Club NYC. He’s the only Fil-Am comedian to have four audio CDs and three DVDs of his various performances. Filipinos got their early doses of Navarrete online with animated shorts of his staple shtick SBC Packers and Maritess and the Superfriends. Rex took Manila by storm in the early 2000s and his stories of his childhood and of relatives living in the US resonated with the local crowds. His style was a breath of fresh air for the stand-up comedy scene, which predominantly was more centered at poking fun at the members of the audience for cheap laughs.
Rex@Resorts World Manila is scheduled on Aug. 24, 8 p.m. at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT). Mike Unson and Noel Gascon are also slated to warm up the crowd as opening acts and a splendid time is guaranteed for all. The event is presented by Catalyst Revolution, with media partners Star World, Star Movies, Fox Channel and National Geographic Channel.
