Nemiranda's Moscow experience

Manila, Philippines - Back from Russia, Angono master painter Nemiranda shows to the public his new series of artwork conceived and painted right in the heart of Moscow.

Described as a showcase of old gold and new works, Nemiranda: The Moscow Experience is on exhibit until July 30 at the Ortigas Foundation Inc., second floor, Ortigas Building, Ortigas cor. Meralco Ave., Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

The project was borne from Nemiranda’s Moscow trip. In celebration of 35 years of Russian-Philippine relations and 150 years of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s birth anniversary, the two countries agreed to foster diplomatic ties further through cultural exchange. Nemiranda was the Filipino artist chosen to represent the country and stage an exhibition in Moscow.

During his June stay in Russia, Nemiranda painted scenes with subjects ranging from landscapes to character studies to street scenes. “The Russians are appreciative of the arts,” says Nemiranda. While in Russia, Nemiranda never forgot his homeland and continued to paint Philippine subjects, some of these being fine examples of imaginative figurism, the style for which he is well-known by art critics and enthusiasts.

The series of paintings recently exhibited in Russia is a testimony to why Russians love Nemiranda style and chose him to be their guest artist. His warm tropical colors have been likened by Europeans to the post-impressionist Gauguin.

Nemiranda: The Moscow Experience is a project of Ortigas Foundation, Inc. in partnership with Nemiranda Arthouse.  Main sponsors are the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Embassy in the Philippines.
