Summer Love showing at the CCP on June 11
MANILA, Philippines - Regal Films matriarch Lily Monteverde met over lunch recently with representatives of the Society of Filipino Archivists for Film (SOFIA), an NGO engaged in film archiving, headed by its president Clodualdo del Mundo Jr. This was to formally announce the adoption of film preservation as one of her personal advocacies as well as to lend her full support to the special SOFIA fund-raising screening of the lost 1981 Regal movie Summer Love by Elwood Perez, to be held on June 11, 6 p.m. at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
“As producer, I’ve come to realize the importance of film preservation. I’ve worked with some of the best directors, from Ishmael Bernal to Joey Gosiengfiao, from Lino Brocka to Peque Gallaga, from Mike de Leon to Elwood,” Monteverde relates. “It would be a pity if future generations would not be able to watch these screen gems. The films we did in the 1970s and 1980s were different.”
Monteverde herself is in charge of her production company’s archives, while daughter Roselle is overseeing the digitization of their extensive catalogue.
Summer Love was among the missing films in the Regal library, lost to a fire, until SOFIA unearthed a copy in U-matic format sometime last year.
The screening of Summer Love is free but donations will be appreciated.
