Nokia Music Connection takes on Makati bar scene

MANILA, Philippines - Three nights, three venues and 12 amazing performances completed the first leg of Nokia Music Connection, a music competition presented by the world’s No. 1 mobile phone brand, Star Records and Myx to search for the next musical sensation.

The busy Makati district was filled with more musical hype when Nokia Music Connection held its first area eliminations in three bars, featuring the 12 finalists that showed off their musical prowess.

From Zamboanga, Bedroom Karma brought its bedroom-conceptualized crossing rock music in hopes of receiving good fortune. On the other hand, the four-piece band FLYTRAP played original compositions aiming to trap the mainstream ears as it has rocked the underground indie scene.

Cavite’s bet, Trauma gave a new flavor to alternative rock with its edgy pure audio assault. Meantime, the three Chunaco brothers of TR3S band showed off their honed inborn talents through original pieces.

Ateneo Management student Nicolo Chavez showed that his love for singing goes beyond a major in music because the self-taught lad knows how to serenade the soul. While, Daniella Fernandez proved that at 18, she can go the distance — from modeling to performing on stage.

Independent artist Jeffrey Yumol expressed his passion for music through his original compositions and rapping. And nurse Don Alrick’s greatest dream to perform in front of an audience allowed him to embrace the arts since childhood through playing the piano, dancing, and undoubtedly through singing.

After performing in other countries, the five-member band Mottaka came to Manila to make its flexible music, from love song to metal rock, known. Whereas, the fusion of two bands, South of Market and Drastic Measure, made the music of South of Market an instant chemistry of good rock alternative and punk music.

A normal cigarette break paved the way for five officemates, now Goldie and the Teddy Bears, to make their mutual love for punk music be heard. And Slash N’ Burn’s energy and passion allowed the band members to perform extreme rock and metal numbers.

The next area eliminations were held in select bars in Quezon City in February. From all the area eliminations, six finalists moved on to the grand finals. The winner will get P200,000 in cash, a recording contract with Star Records and its very own music video produced by Myx.
