Forget You is song of the moment

It is not a new song. In fact, it was released almost a year ago and got five nominations at the last Grammy Awards. But I think it is only now that people are discovering the real charms of F**k You by Cee Lo Green. It is a good love song with an infectious beat and a message that everyone can relate to. I mean f**k you, goodbye. But I guess that although it was a hit on its first time out and so was The Lady Killer, the album where it came from, that word f**k turned a lot of parents off and they subsequently pulled the kids away.

Isn’t it amazing what a good clean-up job can do? F**k You is now known as Forget You and everybody is better able to appreciate Cee Lo’s song. Kids can now listen to it and even sing it. It also helped that Gwyneth Paltrow sang it in the hit TV series Glee. Audience feedback to that one was so good that she was invited to sing it again at the Grammys. That number which also featured Cee Lo in an amazing feathered costume and muppets by the Jim Henson shop, turned out to be the most memorable one of that star-studded evening. After that Forget You was well on its way to becoming an even bigger hit.

Eight of the songs in the top singles list feature guests, most of them hip-hop artists; The girls are in top form with 12 songs in the chart and they range from established divas like Britney, with two songs and J. Lo, to newcomers like Minaj; And though inconceivable a year ago, there are now two songs in the list with the word f**k. The times are really a-changing.

By the way, looks like Gwyneth has become a singing star. The Oscar-winning actress plays a singer in Country Strong, whose Academy-nominated theme she recorded for the soundtrack and performed at the Oscars. She also has a duet with country music star icon Tim McGraw in the movie. Then there is Glee. Gwyneth, who looked sensational in the show, was back last week with a hot mish/mash of Kiss and Landslide.

News of a singing Gwyneth is not really new. She did a great job of Smoky Robinson’s Cruisin’ with Huey Lewis in Duets, one of her early films, where she also sang Kim Carnes’ Bette Davis Eyes. I also recall a sexy take on the standard What Is This Thing Called Love in the movie Infamous. What is happening now is just a rediscovery of Gwyneth, the singer. Do you think we will soon be listening to a Gwyneth Paltrow album produced by her husband Chris Martin of Coldplay? Then maybe, she can also do a big musical like Chicago or Moulin Rouge. Nice.
