Café del Mar, translated as “cafe by the sea”, created the original, iconic compilation series that gave birth to Chillout. Used as chill-out album, warm-up collection, a record to dine with, or romantic backdrop, Café del Mar is suited to today’s lifestyle.
Chillout, refers to various styles of mellow, slow-tempo music from contemporary producers in the electronic music scene. Genres associated with chillout are ambient, trip-hop, Nu jazz, ambient house, ambient trance, new age and other sub-genres of Downtempo—a major branch of electronic music. Sometimes the Easy Listening sub-genre Lounge is considered part of the chillout collection as well.
Café del Mar is most known worldwide for its chillout music compilations. Songs are described as balearic ambient, easy listening music. After the success of the first release, 16 volumes of the main compilation series have been published.
MCA Music celebrates Café del Mar’s 30th anniversary by reissuing the first four volumes of the original and all time greatest hits in Chill-out. The two CD sets are available in music stores for P459.
