MANILA, Philippines - She has captured not only the heart of heartthrob PBA cager Vince Hizon, but of Filipino sports fans all over the country, rendering beauty and grace in a male-dominated sport in her stint as the first ever female basketball television and radio anchor in the country.
Patricia Bermudez-Hizon started her sportscasting career in 2003 as a PBA courtside reporter for the National Broadcasting Network (NBN). Before that, she was a newscaster in 1999 for the Philippine Television (PTV4). Patricia was the only female basketball courtside analyst of the then ABC5. She spent a year as a Radyo PBA anchor before moving on to the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) in 2008. She has also covered the Fiba Asia Championships, all the Summer Olympic Games since 2000, South East Asian Games, Asian Games and numerous Tour Pilipinas Multi Stage cycling events for both television and radio.
Besides sportcasting, Patricia has also hosted public affairs shows, election coverages, and even a show with First Gentleman Mike Arroyo. She also did lifestyle and travel shows and documentaries for Lakbay TV, Isla Channel and Living Asia and hosted the TV-shopping show Venta 5 on ABC 5.
She loves sports, be it basketball, volleyball, swimming, diving, fencing, cycling, even martial arts like taekwondo, judo, karate, wushu, and others. In her personal blog, She writes: “My favorites are basketball (really love the game!), taekwondo (blue belt ain’t enough), mountain biking (20 kilometers a day, a mountain at a time), golf (Class C champion in a tourney in Malarayat! My second shot is always bad though), and running (best time for 10k is just one hour, 14 minutes).”
What keeps her busy nowadays, besides taking care of Vince, whom she describes as “a basketball player turned golf addict” and their two children who are “big, competitive, aggressive, and loud”, are her other jobs that she loves just as much as sports.
“Outside my sportscasting career, I’m a free lance producer and writer, owner of a travel agency, a marketing and events consultant, and founder of the Everyday Is Your Birthday Foundation,” Patricia shares. She is also into photography.
The cool wife and mom has received recognition for her charity work in Everyday Is Your Birthday Foundation (EIYBF), an NGO that encourages people to celebrate their birthdays sharing their blessings to the less fortunate. EIYBF gathers cash and donations in kind from the birthday celebrator and his/her family and friends to give to the needy and build a relationship between the children and the volunteers.
Patricia has likewise endorsed several product like a mouthwash, a beauty soap, and diapers, among others.
With all these achievements, Patricia is a good candidate to be the face of sports of TV5, as she is fluent in communicating and adept in sports knowledge. If GMA has Kapuso Chino Trinidad and ABS-CBN has Kapamilya Dyan Castillejo, TV5 can have Kapatid Patricia Bermudez-Hizon.
