Anthony Dexter is Valentino
In 1951, Anthony Dexter played the title role in Valentino, the filmbio of the great romantic idol of the ’20s. The sudden death of the American-Italian actor in 1926 caused several suicides and his burial was a national event.
The role of Rudolph Valentino proved to be some kind of “jinx” for Dexter who never lived down the tag. His subsequent roles were mostly so-so.
Eleanor Parker stood out in such movies as Of Human Bondage, Interrupted Melody, Never Say Goodbye, The Woman in White, Home from the Hill and The Sound of Music, where she played The Baroness. —RKC
