Disney magic saves the day

MANILA, Philippines - Anya Sayson lost almost all of her toys because of the floods caused by Typhoon Ondoy. The only item she was able to save was a plush toy named “Jack-jack,” the youngest among the brood of three of Disney’s The Incredibles.

What made her Christmas this year especially memorable, however, was not the calamity that struck but the magical experience she had at the charity show of Disney On Ice presents a Disneyland Adventure at the Araneta Coliseum where she watched the whole family of The Incredibles perform stunts on ice, and afterwards met Dora, the Hungarian skater who plays Mrs. Incredible.

Anya is one of calamity victims who trooped to the Araneta Coliseum recently to enjoy the charity show especially put up by Araneta Center and Feld Entertainment so that those affected by Ondoy and Pepeng, and the financially disadvantaged, can experience Disney magic right here in Manila.

And magic was clearly in the air when, soon as Mickey and Minnie Mouse appeared onstage, the predominantly Filipino audience gave a rousing welcome, with the kids cheering the loudest, their excitement evident.

From Donald Duck’s amusing exploits during the Jungle Cruise, Goofy’s own comical antics while taking the Runaway Mine Train ride with the Disney friends and his endearing number with Baloo and the monkeys, The Incredibles’ impressive display of their powers in their Super Suits, and Mickey and Minnie’s scary trip into the Haunted Mansion, to the friends’ dizzying ride with the Mad Hatter, the white rabbit, and Alice in Wonderland, the Disney parade disrupted by evil Queen Maleficent, and the Fab Five’s victory over Queen Maleficent’s minions with the help of The Incredibles, the audience sat entranced and spellbound as a bevy of classic and new Disney stars gracefully skated right before their eyes.

Judging by the audiences’ hearty cheers for every well-loved Disney character that skated in and the gay laughter that greeted each stunt of Goofy or Donald, the event definitely brought back the magic of Christmas…a resounding success for the Araneta Center, Feld Entertainment, and the Disney On Ice cast who all cared enough to want to share the magical experience with Disney fans here in Manila. Lending their full support are ABS-CBN, Alaska, BDO, BPI, Crossover, Globe, The Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Radio Partners, Richmonde Hotel, Summit Media, Unilab-Ceelin, and Wilkins.

Disney On Ice presents a Disneyland Adventure runs until tomorrow, Jan. 3 at the Araneta Coliseum.
