Whitney Houston is 'looking to you'
MANILA, Philippines - With over 170 million combined albums, singles and videos sold worldwide in her career plus numerous accolades, Whitney Houston has shed herself a superstar, legend and an icon (almost if not the same as Michael Jackson’s status). Now, the Queen of All Divas returns with her release I Look To You available in record stores.
Clive Davis, chief creative officer of Sony Music Entertainment and long-time mentor to Whitney, asked her to record the follow-up to her last studio album Just Whitney which was released way back in 2002. She didn’t think that she wanted to get back in the game.
“My career and my life moved very fast,” she continues, “At that time I was just hitting my 40s, and I basically just wanted to be a mother and a homebody.” The relationship of the pair goes way back to 1983 when Davis signed the young Whitney to Arista Records and oversaw the development and marketing of her 13 million selling debut Whitney Houston.
Fortunately, Davis was persistent and the result, after almost three years, is I Look To You, a record of songs full of Houston’s signature vocal power and passion. With songs titles like Nothin’ But Love, I Didn’t Know My Own Strength, Like I Never Left and the title track I Look To You, the album reveals a strong message of survival and perseverance and reflects the hard-earned lessons of the high-profile personal challenges Whitney has encountered in recent years.
Surprisingly though, the first single released on radio is the disco-flavored Million Dollar Bill which was co-written and co-produced by Alicia Keys. A music video is being made for this single.
A lot of excitement is building up for Whitney’s two major TV appearances. She will perform live in Central Park, New York for the show Good Morning America and with what is called “the most anticipated music interview of the decade,” “a must-see television event”, Whitney will also be doing her first interview in nearly seven years on Oprah which will air in the US on Sept. 14.
I Look To You is now available in record stores under Sony Music Philippines.
