What Rufa Mae will do for love

OPEN LINE - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Controversy follows Rufa Mae Quinto wherever she goes. Now, the latest talk about her is a new P30-M house in San Francisco in her name. Again, the questions come, one after the other.

Did a wealthy lover buy the house for her? Does this mean she will finally settle down? If and when, will she say goodbye to showbiz?

Has the host of GMA 7’s S.O.P. and Showbiz Central, and the regular cast member of Bubble Gang finally found Mr. Right?

Rufa Mae answers these burning questions thrown at her. Read on, and judge for yourself.

1. Let’s talk about your new house in San Francisco. Why did you buy one? (Valerie Cruz, Taguig City).

I think it would be nice to have a home in the US. That’s better than renting a room in a hotel whenever I go there. It’s one of my dreams ever since.

2. How much did the house cost? How did you pay for it? (John Galang, Tondo, Manila).

It costs more or less P30-M. It’s a simple house with two rooms. My boyfriend and I split the expenses (Talks have it, though, that a guy from a prominent family bought the entire house for her). You see, I also have savings. That’s why I’m now staying with my family in our old home. I want to save so I cut down on my expenses.

3. Does this mean you’re ready to get married? (Kevin Cruz, Project 6, Quezon City).

My boyfriend and I have talked of marriage but we have not discussed about the wedding. We will get there, eventually. I finally found a soul mate, someone who has always been there for me. Now, I have someone I love more than my career. I’ve never felt this way before.

4. So you’re willing to give up showbiz for love? (Gian Reyes, Bacoor, Cavite).

Yes, I am. I plan to finish all my commitments up to December (e.g. GMA 7’s Darna and the Metro Filmfest entry Wapakman where she stars with Manny Pacquiao). Then, I plan to slow down and balance my time between my work and personal life. I used to be the type who is always looking for work. Now, if it’s there, fine. If it’s not, fine too.

I’ve spent 15 years in showbiz. I’ve done many things. I’ve produced movies, an album and a concert. I’ve worked and sacrificed for my family. It’s about time I look into my own needs.

5. How will you strike that balance between career and personal life? (Emy Velez, Cainta, Rizal).

Dati, kayod ako ng kayod. I’m tired. I don’t want to spend all of my time in the dressing room. That’s why I will be more choosy. I must like the project first. I’ll focus on quality, not quantity. Relax na ‘ko.
