Home of Hope gives away houses and lots

Twelve houses and lots will be given away to 12 lucky families in the Home of Hope project of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs in partnership with the Habitat for Humanity Philippines and the local government of Pasig City.

According to ABS-CBN NCAD Public Service head Menchie Silvestre, Umagang Kayganda has been choosing the beneficiaries based on their personal backgrounds and how they’ve worked hard to provide and raise their families

To date, the morning news program has selected three recipients. One of them is Gloria Lahay Lahay, who is separated from her husband and sorts out trash to provide for the education of her two children.

Silvestre said that houses will not be mere “give-aways” as the families will have to help in the construction phase alongside other volunteer workers based on the Habitat for Humanity’s House for a House Principle.

The Home of Hope project is a spin-off from the successful Tree of Hope project spearheaded by Umagang Kayganda in 2007, wherein funds raised from ABS-CBN employees and viewers were used to build a school for Aetas in Lopez, Quezon.
