Miriam, La Salle win Skechers Streetdance
With drum beats pounding and incessant screaming from the dance crews’ fiercest fans, the Skechers Streetdance Battle raged on at the Araneta Coliseum. Crews from the high school and college divisions all vied to be this year’s champions. The Big Dome audience was treated to a show of amazing dance moves, jaw-dropping choreography and fiery school spirit.
Hundreds of hopefuls joined the elimination rounds, but only 12 groups for the high school division and 13 groups for the college bracket made it to the final round.
The battling crews showed their best routines impressing the Philippine All Stars which happened to be 2008 World Hip-hop Competition champions. Hosts Mo Twister, Drinnie Aguilar and JC Cuadrado could not help but admire the performances of the contestants.
Emilio Aguinaldo College’s Christian Adrales and La Consolacion’s Michelle Renato were declared the most stylish male and female for the Skechers Street Style Awards. Also gracing the event were Philippines All Stars and the UP Street.
For the high school division, Colegio de Sta. Rosa was second runner-up. Holy Spirit QC was first runner-up while Miriam College’s Sayawatha Dance Troupe bagged the grand prize of P100,000. Ateneo de Manila University and Technological Institute of the Philippines were declared second and first runners-up, respectively in the college level. The championship title and also the P100,000 cash prize went to De La Salle University-LSDC (La Salle Dance Company) Street.
