Erik Santos: Some things never change

Erik Santos was an ordinary college student when he joined ABS-CBN’s Star In A Million. That totally changed his life. But some things have remained the same. He is still shy, kind, disciplined. “I could only thank God for all the blessings. I hope He gives me more time in this world to enjoy life. God is so good,” he says. Erik is back to school at Centro Escolar University where he is taking up Psychology. He was plucked from college when he won the grand prize on Star In A Million and the rest as they say is history. If you had a third eye where would it be located?

I want it in my forehead. Also because in Hinduism and Buddhism, a third eye is located in between the brows.

Favorite part of your body?

Eyes. They are the windows to your soul. The eyes give you away. They tell if a person is sincere, lying or happy. Sabi ng nanay ko, maganda raw ang mata ko. Joke!

What name would you have given yourself?

I would have called myself Gabriel. Parang guardian angel.

How will you describe your first kiss?

It was good. I was in high school. It was a quick one, pero okey pa rin.

What is your greatest fear?

I’m scared of dying young. I have so many dreams to fulfill, so many things to do. Just the thought of death scares me. Life is so beautiful. I hope God gives me longer time in this world.

The most expensive item you bought for yourself?

I bought a house and lot from my winnings on Star In a Million. That was the biggest expense I have had in my life so far but I’m happy. I redecorated the house and spent more money from my earnings as a singer. 

The best place on earth?

I love my room. It is my favorite place in the house and on earth. It is cozy, and I can do anything there.

If you win the lotto, the first thing that you would buy?

I would buy a building. Pangarap ko yan bata pa ako. A building is also a stable investment.

The best decision you have made? The worst?

The best decision was when I joined Star In a Million. That changed my life. The worst was when I bought a second hand car. My advice to would-be car buyers — don’t rush, mag-isip ng mabuti at kung di kaya, pag-ipunan until you are able to buy a brand new one. Masakit sa ulo ‘pag second hand.

Given the opportunity to come face to face with God, what question would you ask Him?

What do you want me to do in my remaining days on earth? or What is my real mission on earth?

Which side of the bed you sleep on?

I’m comfortable on the left side.

If you have wings, where would you go?

 I would fly to Greece and Argentina. In Greece, I would like to see the place where the first marathon was held, visit museums and other beautiful, centuries-old buildings. I would also like to visit the Andes mountains.

How do you deal with intrigues?

Instead of putting the blame on people who sow intrigues, I try to assess myself, I pray and I smile. I don’t want to be stressed with intrigues. Life is short.

What is your fetish?

I love beautiful armpits. I don’t know why?

Who are the people that make you laugh?

Ai-Ai delas Alas and Rufa Mae Quinto make me laugh. With Ai-Ai, nagkikita palang kami tawanan na agad. With Rufa, obvious ba?

If you were a fictional character, who would you be and why?

I would love to be Harry Potter. He is kind, intelligent, cuddly. And he has powers, too.

Would you rather be feared or loved?

Loved. 

What supernatural power would you like to have?

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Five people in one  — just say the magic words and you can turn into a robot with enormous powers.

Why do roses have thorns?

To protect themselves. Roses are so beautiful that they need thorns to distance themselves from unkind hands.

If you were to confess only one sin to God, what would it be?

I cannot pick one. I’m not perfect. He knows everything that I do and with His grace, I know He will forgive me.

If you have the power to solve all the problems in the country, what will you solve first?

Poverty. It pains me to see people going hungry. Everybody should have food on the table. Everyone should eat.

If you were Superman, who is your Superwoman?

Amy Winehouse. My God, that woman rocks. She is so talented. I hope she gains control of her life.

If a woman has a tag price, how much are you willing to spend?

My life.

If you can compete one on one with any single athlete, who would it be?

Tiger Woods. He is unbeatable. He is the best, almost perfect. Why is he so good?

If you had a tattoo, what would it be?

I will have a unicorn tattooed in my behind. A unicorn is mysteriously beautiful, fierce yet kind, selfless yet solitary.

How often do you lie?

Not too often. I’m not a good liar. Madali akong mabisto.
