SinagTala's 5th anniversary celebrations

-
SinagTala's 5th anniversary celebrations ends with a unique collaboration between music and art.

The event is called Pictures at an Exhibition: Visual Art Inspired by Music, Music Inspired by Visual Art.

Juilliard trained pianist Aileen Chanco, in her first solo concert in the Philippines will perform works inspired by visual art including Debussy's Images I (as influenced by Renoir) and Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition (as influenced by Hartmann).

The rest of the concert program includes Ginastera's Sonata # 1, Antonio Molina's Malikmata and Liszt's Sonetto 104 del Petrarca from "Annees de Pelerinage."

Complementing the concert will be an art exhibit featuring the works of Noel Pocot, who drew his inspiration from the music interpreted by Aileen Chanco.

Also on exhibit will be images of the actual works by Renoir and Hartmann, which served as the sources of inspiration for the pieces composed by Debussy and Mussorgsky.

Noel Pocot's exhibit opens on January 4 at 6PM and will last till January 12, 2005 at the Little Theater Lobby of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Aileen Chanco's solo concert will be at the Little Theater of the CCP on January 8, 7:30 PM.

SinagTala introduced Aileen Chanco to the Philippines in the Debuts concert last February 2003 with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra.

She received numerous accolades from critics and audience alike for her fine performance of Schumann's Piano Concerto in A Minor. National Artist Leonor Goquinco wrote: "After hearing only a few notes played by US-based concert pianist Aileen Chanco, we concluded that she is a poetess of the piano.

From her first passages, Aileen Chanco demonstrated supreme self-confidence, dynamism and lyricism..She displayed remarkable technical skill as well as tremendous technique, stamina and strength in spite of her petite frame."

On January 7, 2005, she will perform the Philippine premiere of John Adams' Century Rolls, considered by many as the most significant piano concerto to emerge from North America in the 20th century with the Philippine

Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Eugene Castillo as part of their season in the CCP's Main Theater.

Tickets to Aileen Chanco's solo concert on January 8 are at P500, with 20% discounts for seniors and a limited number of 50% discounts for students.
