What’s up next for Desiree del Valle?

- John Lapus -
The news about Desiree del Valle and her ex-lover, Elaine Crisostomo, didn’t come as a surprise to me. I was one of the very first people in showbiz whom, Elaine met during my very first show in US.

Along with Kaye Abad, Baron Geisler, Paolo Contis and Desiree, we did the Tabing-Ilog Meets Arriba Babe show, produced by JNL Entertainment, in May 2002. Desiree was having her "temporary" vacation in the US at that time; the whole cast and crew just met up with her. It was a reunion for "Corrine" with the Tabing-Ilog cast and all of us were happy to see her again.

Elaine is a friendly girl. She saw to it that every one was doing fine. For obvious reasons, it was only Paolo whom she wasn’t talking to. Paolo was Desiree’s ex-boyfriend and the two didn’t end up well. We were even teasing Paolo then, since it was the first time for him and Desiree to see each other after the break-up. Gentleman as he was, Paolo just stayed cool; his smile showed that no matter how hard things went between them, he was happy for Desiree and her new-found love.

Seeing Desiree and Elaine and their "public display of affection," kissing and hugging in front of us, could have been a scoop that I could bring back home. But I remained silent since I knew it was a matter between the two of them.

The show in Los Angeles and San Francisco went well except that Desiree didn’t agree to have a number with Paolo.

Few months later, Desiree came back to resume her acting career. She was with Elaine who stayed and supported her all the way.

Luckily, Desiree got one of the title roles in Bituin, sharing the billing with singer/actress Carol Banawa. Yours truly was also in the cast of the soap. Small world, no? I was a witness to their undying love for each other. Elaine really took care of Desiree during our tapings and stayed until the wee hours of morning just to make sure that Desiree is doing fine. The two were really sweet and so much in love with each other. Who would ever think that things would go wrong?

As the title of the songs goes, Some Good Things Never Last. Desiree and Elaine broke up.

A few months ago, I got a surprise long-distance call from Elaine. She was crying on the phone. In between, her sobs, she told me, "Sweet, ninakawan ako ni Des. ’Yung kotse namin binenta niya. Nilimas niya ang joint account namin. Ikinasal kami sa Las Vegas, may video ako to prove it. I want to be interviewed. Ikaw ang una kong tinawagan."

I was speechless. I didn’t know what to say. I hardly knew Elaine but I sympathized with her. Like her, I also belong to the third sex.

I alerted the The Buzz staff about the issue.

Before I knew it, pictures and video footages were already being shown on TV Patrol. What used to be blind items now identified Desiree and Elaine as their "odd couple" who got married in Las Vegas and just broke up. Soon, Elaine herself was spilling the beans.

Desiree is a good actress. Elaine produces shows. The industry is too small for them to hide from each other. Sooner or later, they will meet and no matter how badly things happened, I hope that Desiree and Elaine can fix things up. Further scandals will hurt not only the two of them but also the people around them.

After all, they have had good times together; they were friends and lovers.

Whatever happens, I hope that the truth – and nothing but – will prevail.
